BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The NEWC Board of Directors’ primary responsibilities include governance, strategic direction and accountability. They delegate authority to the Executive Director to carry out the daily operations and programs. They are involved in the selection and supervision of the Executive Director, review of the Centre’s Mission, Vision and Values, monitoring and approving financial reports and Centre budgets, serving on board committees and spreading the word about what NEWC does.

    BOARD COMMITMENT

There are up to 12 Board members at any time. At least 50% of the board members live and/or work in Winnipeg’s North End. All Board members are volunteers and dedicate approximately 4 – 6 hours of their time every month. Board members also sit on one of the following board committees: Executive, Governance, Finance, and Personnel/Nominating.


HOW TO BECOME A BOARD MEMBER?

If you are interested in becoming a member of NEWC’s Board of Directors, send your resume to the attention of the Executive Director at info@newcentre.org. Direct recruitment takes place each year over the summer months. New Board members are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September.


NEWC MEMBERSHIP

We offer free membership to all persons who support the vision and mission of the Centre. Anyone interested in becoming a member of NEWC should contact us and fill in a registration form. The information in the registration form is kept confidential.

Active members can be any women or non-binary person who completes a membership application and is approved for admission by the Board. Such members are entitled to all privileges of the membership: making motions, nominations, voting at the AGM; using the services of the Centre; and participating in activities held at or by the Centre. Each active member has one vote at the Annual General Meeting.

Associate members can be men, young persons under eighteen (18) years of age, or organizations. They have all the privileges of membership except making motions and voting.
