We offer individual counselling, drop-in/ phone-in crisis counseling, and open and closed groups. NEWC follows strict confidentiality procedures in regards to our counselling participants. All counselling services are free of charge and open to all women above the age of 18. We are able to provide these free programs and services thanks to the Family Violence Prevention Program, Province of Manitoba.

Individual Counselling
Individual counselling is offered for up to one year. Individual counselling encourages women to set their own goals and provides support through the process of achieving those goals.
Women who would like to use our counselling services can call or visit us. We have participants who have signed up on their own, women that were mandated by court, or women who were referred by other agencies and organizations.
Drop-In / Crisis Counselling
If a woman is experiencing a crisis, she can call or drop in on weekdays, between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. Our counsellors will help her to defuse the tension and/or stop the escalation of harmful emotions. We help the participant in crisis to narrow down her most pressing issue and together we identify resources. Resources may be on site or we may refer participants to other agencies that offer programs to meet a specific need.
Women may be requested to wait until a counsellor is available to meet with them.
Open and Closed Counselling Groups
We offer open and closed counselling groups on various topics such as:
- Healthy Anger
- Grief and Loss
- Healthy Relationships
- Domestic Violence
- Health and Wellness
- Self Esteem
- Etc.
Check “What’s New” for specific dates.
Most of the counselling groups are closed. Closed groups enroll participants only at the beginning and follow a detailed outline. On the other hand, open groups take new participants at any time and are client-directed and loosely structured.
As the other NEWC programs and services, all groups are free of charge and offer childminding, light snack, and bus fare.
