The North End Women’s Centre has been serving women and their families for over 25 years. We are a registered non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors elected by the membership.
Our purpose is to provide a friendly atmosphere, where women can receive the understanding, support and resources they need to make informed choices about their lives. Resources include, but are not limited to, information, referrals, counselling, outreach, employment programs, transitional housing, groups and volunteer opportunities.
Our programs and services are determined by the community. We seek feedback from our participants and staff to determine the needs of community women. Based on these needs we plan our future programming.
We have three sites:
- Our main building, located at 394 Selkirk Avenue, is where we offer counselling services, groups, addictions continued recovery program, information and referral, outreach, advocacy and a drop-in area.
- 382-384 Serlkirk Avenue, is home to the Up Shoppe, two transitional housing units and four offices. Through the Up Shoppe we offer affordable clothing and employment programs.
- Betty Berg House, located in the West part of Winnipeg, is a second stage transition housing facility providing safe housing and various services to women recovering from addictions.
NEWC programs and services are provided by a very competent and dedicated team. Fifteen women work at the Centre as full time staff and six as part time or casual staff. The Centre is a true example of how different cultures and races can work together to serve our community. Our staff consists of Aboriginal women; immigrants from Asia, Africa and Europe; and caucasian women.
